The Franco-Swiss composer Vivian Roost is the latest to create music for Project XII. This version completely reimagines Eric Satie’s Gymnopédie No.2. While consciously respecting the original score, Roost wanted to create his own vision of the work by adding new sonorities such as a more aerial sound of the piano and harmonium notes with a triplet rhythm to reinforce the dance-like feeling indicated by the meaning behind “Gymnopedie”. Finally, subtle string melodies finish the dreamy atmosphere of the piece.

“I have always had a great admiration and attraction for Eric Satie’s music and particularly for Gymnopedie. It was during quarantine that the idea of a «Rework» of Gymnopedies was born. Time seemed suspended, the same way it is when listening to Eric Satie’s work.”
