Antal Doratis Londoner Holländer-Einspielung von 1960 [ist] wegen der unübertroffenen Besetzung der Titelpartie . . . beispielhaft. George London ist ein Wagner-Heldenbariton, von dem man heute nur träumen kann. Er hat die Dämonie für die Partie, er verfügt über eine majestätische Stimme, die in allen Lagen machtvoll anspricht, er durchdringt die Rolle intensiv. Ein grandioser Sänger . . . Hochinteressant ist auch die Besetzung des Daland mit dem Italiener Giorgio Tozzi, der die Buffo-Seite des frühen Wagner, seine Nähe zum deutschen Singspiel beglaubigt.
