[Zoltán Kocsis und das Takács Quartett] verstehen sich auf den scharf geschliffenen Tonfall, den Bartóks Musik in den frühen, trotzigrevolutionären Stücken wie im scheinbar abgeklärten "Spätstil" braucht, um ihre Dynamik zu entfalten. Vor allem gelingt es diesen Interpreten -- wie auch den meisten der genannten Dirigenten mit ihren Orchestern --, das neue Schönheitsideal der musikalischen Moderne in Bartóks Formulierung hörbar zu machen: Manche Dissonanzen entfalten bei entsprechender Betonung ihres Ausdrucksgehalts im kompositorischen Kontinuum tatsächlich wohligwarme, konsonante Qualität. Ohne diese Tugend ist adäquate Bartók-Interpretation nicht möglich . . . hochexpressive pianistische Glanzleistungen von Andor Földes, Julius Katchen und Swjatoslaw Richter . . . [die gesamte Box ist ein einziges, aufregendes] Hörabenteuer.
