There is nothing here that fails to represent János's artistry fully and there are no disappointments. His blend of patrician temperament and passionate intensity is reflected in all of these [splendid sounding recordings] . . . These versions of the Bach Suites are legendary. . . They are superb in almost every way, and I've never heard anyone else play them better technically . . . [György Sebok] shows his abilities convincingly in works like the Chopin Sonata and "Polonaise brillante", and is always an alert collaborator throughout his appearances here. János's lively sense of humour comes out vividly in the clever Martinu "Rossini Variations" . . . Concertos make up Discs 7-10 of the set, all with the London Symphony Orchestra in splendid form . . . All of these performances with orchestra are extremely good examples of János's best qualities and they are all treasures.
