This is the soundtrack from Hannibal, the eagerly awaited sequel to The Silence of the Lambs. Starring Anthony Hopkins as Dr Hannibal Lecter and Julianne Moore as Agent Clarice Starling, it continues the story seven years after Lecter escaped from custody in a maximum-security hospital for the criminally insane. The doctor is now at large in Europe, pursuing his own interests, savouring the scents, the essences of an unguarded world. But Starling has never forgotten her encounters with Dr Lecter — his seldom-used voice still haunts her dreams. Mason Verger remembers Dr Lecter, too, and is obsessed with revenge. Verger was Dr Lecter's sixth victim and, though hideously disfigured, has survived. Verger soon realises that in order to draw the doctor out into the open, he must use someone Lecter cannot resist as bait: Clarice Starling.
The dark and haunting soundtrack is composed by Hans Zimmer, composer of the enormously successful score for the box-office-hit movie Gladiator. Zimmer is also composer of numerous film scores that have garnered Academy Awards and nominations. These include Rain Man, The Thin Red Line, As Good As It Gets and The Lion King. He also composed the score for this summer's blockbuster, MI:2.
