RECORDING INFORMATION
Cecilia Bartoli makes Rossini's ever-green favourite all her own, with a compelling performance whose pathos, vocal beauty and astonishing virtuosity both touches the heart and thrills the senses. She is joined by several notable Italian principals in this Houston re-staging of the acclaimed "traditional" but larger-than-life production from the Teatro Comunale di Bologna. Immaculately directed by veteran TV arts director Brian Large, and at a generous 164 minutes, this has already proved a top-selling release on VHS.

The new DVD release includes optional subtitles in English, French, German and Chinese, and a superb new 5.1 surround soundtrack, as well as LPCM digital stereo.

La Cenerentola is joined by a second Bartoli release this month — her magnificent recital from Vicenza, entitled Live in Italy . It also follows two earlier classic opera releases on DVD in January this year: Jean-Pierre Ponnelle's dramatic film of Verdi's Rigoletto (starring Luciano Pavarotti), and the definitive La traviata from Angela Gheorghiu.
