In June 1998, Cecilia Bartoli returned to her native Italy to give a specially staged concert at the historic, neo-Classical Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza. Accompanied by French virtuoso Jean-Yves Thibaudet and the early music ensemble Sonatori de la Gioiosa Marca, she performed a generous and varied selection of pieces, ranging from sublime love songs to breathtaking arias, that displayed to perfection the golden voice, emotional pathos and brilliant coloratura technique with which she has captivated both public and press around the world. No fewer than 30 songs were featured, including such favourites as Mozart's "Voi che sapete" and Bizet's Séguedille from Carmen . As with her Cenerentola , the concert was directed by veteran TV arts director Brian Large.
