RECORDING INFORMATION

Known as "the father of the symphony", Haydn's enormous output of 104 numbered symphonies show a variety of invention that is astonishing. His genius as a composer of symphonies is wonderfully displayed in this selection which includes many of the most popular of the symphonies as well as the little-known Sinfonia concertante.

Frans Brüggen is well-known for his work with period instrument orchestras, and his lively and vigorous interpretations of a wide variety of music from the Baroque era through to the early Romantic era has won much praise. This selection of Haydn symphonies features Brüggen and two of the finest authentic instrument orchestras: the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century.
