This is the first Decca recording from the newly signed Brazilian piano legend, Nelson Freire.
Nelson Freire was born in Boa Esperanza, Brazil, in 1944 and studied as a child prodigy in Rio where in 1956 he won the inaugeral Rio de Janeiro International Piano Competition at the incredible age of 12. This success led to a scholarship to study in Vienna where he won the Vianna da Motta International Piano Competition and was awarded the Dinu Lipatti medal in London.
Freire's subsequent international career has included concert appearances, recitals and recordings with the great orchestras and conductors. His discography includes a volume in the Philips Great Pianists of the Twentieth Century Edition.
This Decca debut CD of Chopin solo piano works showcases Nelson Freire's complete technical mastery as well as his boldly original sound in music of strong contrasts and virtuosic showmanship, and is a welcome return to the studio for an artistically mature, well-established classical artist.
