RECORDING INFORMATION
Haydn’s last 12 symphonies were written for the impresario Salomon and first performed in London between 1791 and 1795 during the composer’s visits (1791–92 and 1794–95). They are amongst the most popular of Haydn’s works and are equally popular with both modern orchestras and those specialising in period performances.

Frans Brüggen has recorded all twelve of the “London” symphonies and this programme contains two of the most popular, the “Drum roll” and “Surprise” symphonies. A further volume for future release will complete the cycle.
