RECORDING INFORMATION

These three contemporary masses — from South America, Africa and Spain — while different all have a basic common factor in their fundamental faith. Each has an enduring popularity that goes well beyond their respective country or even continent of origin. The Missa luba has proved particularly popular and this collection includes both the original audio recording from the 1960s and the 1990 film version released on DVD for the first time. The “Sanctus” from the Missa luba achieved huge popularity when it was featured in the 1968 film if… and a reissue of the original recording has been much-requested.

The film of Missa luba is performed by Kenya's leading national choir and includes footage with members of the choir introducing the viewer to their native villages and surrounding countryside. The DVD includes an introduction and commentary from Virginia McKenna.
