RECORDING INFORMATION
Barbara Bonney is one of only a handful of artists who are enormously respected whilst also being hugely popular. Perhaps what makes her so is that rare combination of searching, intelligent artistry and the sheer seductive beauty of her "radiant" soprano voice.

This celebration of her art includes the first release of a sumptuous new recording of music with which she will always be associated. The longest track on this disc is the first-ever release of the gorgeously beautiful Presentation of the Rose from Der Rosenkavalier (Act Two), in which Barbara Bonney is joined by the Octavian of the day, the enormously popular American mezzo Susan Graham. (This recording was made at the sessions for the critically celebrated Strauss Heroines with Renée Fleming and the Wiener Philharmoniker under Christoph Eschenbach, on Decca
466 314-2).

Unquestionably the leading Sophie of her generation Barbara Bonney has, surprisingly, never recorded the role for CD, which will guarantee enormous interest in this disc from the press as well as her many fans.

The other great stage role with which she is most closely associated is Susanna in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, represented here by the exquisite Act Four aria. Collectors and fans will also enjoy the selection from the currently unavailable complete recording of Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore.

Increasingly active away from the opera stage Barbara Bonney is among the most sought after and best loved of recitalists. It is natural, therefore, that this disc includes tracks from her most recent album Fairest Isle (Decca 466 132-2), which includes Dido's Lament, as well as music from her Gramophone award-winning disc of Scandinavian songs Diamonds in the Snow (Decca 466 762-2).

The range of music on this release is enormous: from Bach cantatas to Grieg's Peer Gynt, as well as the hugely popular Requiems by Pergolesi (with Andreas Scholl) and Andrew Lloyd Webber (Pie Jesu). Whatever the music, Barbara Bonney brings to it a deceptively simple artistry and the irresistible beauty of her "radiant" voice.
