RECORDING INFORMATION
Gluck’s popular opera Orfeo ed Euridice is usually heard in the version for Vienna, which dates from 1762 and of which there are many recordings.

The French version, produced for Paris in 1774, is much less frequently heard and is the one presented here. The role of Orphée is given to a tenor voice (in the Vienna version it is usually sung by a countertenor or mezzo-soprano) and in this classic recording it is sung by the Quebec-born tenor, Léopold Simoneau, with Belgian soprano Suzanne Danco as Eurydice.
