RECORDING INFORMATION

Following the success of Rossini Discoveries (Decca 470 298-2) and Verdi Discoveries (Decca 473 767-2), Riccardo Chailly continues his fascinating exploration of little-known music by great Italian opera composers with no less than twelve works by Puccini, plus Berio’s final revised completion of Puccini’s unfinished opera Turandot.

Puccini did not complete his great oriental opera before his death in 1924. Italian composer Luciano Berio (1925–2003) was commissioned to write a new completion of the work. This is the first recording of the final, revised version – the result of discussions between Berio and Riccardo Chailly following the first public performances in 2002.
