RECORDING INFORMATION

The year 2003 marks the 50th anniversary of the death of Sergei Prokofiev, one of the most innovative of the late Russian composers, who made his mark both as a pianist and as a composer of a variety of music for concert hall, ballet and opera as well as stage and screen.

This release is a 2-CD set, which also contains an extensive 72-page booklet with historical information about the composer and the featured works, ensuring that the compactothèque represents real value to the consumer.

The Prokofiev Compactothèque is a comprehensive 2-CD, three-label collection (Decca, DG, Philips) of many of the composer's best-known works including extracts from his ballets The Fiery Angel, Romeo and Juliet and Cinderella, his operas Semyon Kotko, War and Peace and Love for Three Oranges, and his film scores for Alexander Nevsky and Ivan the Terrible. There are also excerpts from his symphonies, concertos and other works.
