RECORDING INFORMATION

One of the most exciting and innovative crossover albums for autumn 2000…

Two Worlds is a Dave Grusin and Lee Ritenour album. It's the meeting of two worlds — classical and jazz. It's not only a collaboration between Dave and Lee, but features artists Renée Fleming, Gil Shaham and Julian Lloyd Webber.

The merging of these two worlds puts this album into context. It spells something different. The repertoire on this album is a mixture of new compositions by Dave and Lee, folk music, plus arrangements of works by Bach, Bartók amongst others.

Excerpt from booklet note:
What's instantly apparent about Two Worlds is that Dave Grusin and Lee Ritenour avoid the extremes of being either overly reverential to their classical sources or hell-bent on making something entirely different from them. The sound of the album is different from a classical album. It's more contemporary with a strong presence from guitar and piano. The arrangements are subtle yet true to the spirit of the originals, with simple combinations of piano, guitar, orchestra and guest appearances on 8 of the 13 tracks by soprano Renée Fleming, violinist Gil Shaham and cellist Julian Lloyd Webber.
