RECORDING INFORMATION This is Matthias Goerne's first recording of opera arias and includes repertoire from the eighteenth to the twentieth centuries from Mozart (Figaro, Don Giovanni), through Schumann and Wagner (Tannhäuser), through to Strauss, Korngold and Berg (Wozzeck). His choice of repertoire covers a remarkable range of character. Though Goerne has not yet sung all of these roles on stage, his intelligent, expressive interpretation and wonderful voice mean that the disc will interest critics and appeal to core opera fans. "Matthias Goerne as Papageno proved a lively, incisive presence, playing Schikaneder's broad comedy with his tongue in cheek wide-eyed, perky, alive to the nuances of both sung and spoken words. His boyish charm and solid, honeyed baritone perfectly suit the birdman" |
