"The relationship between the Wiener Philharmoniker and Alfred Brendel, which dates from 1955, reached a temporary climax with this recording of Beethoven's piano concertos. It is an instance of one of those rapports between this ensemble and some few great artists which is hard to explain but whose existence is very real" Dr Clemens Hellsberg, Wiener Philharmoniker (from original booklet note) The recordings were made in the Musikverein, Vienna, from late 1997 through 1998.
