RECORDING INFORMATION
These recordings of Mahler and Wagner were recorded at the very end of Kirsten Flagstad's life and capture the voice in its full maturity. The velvet richness of Flagstad's timbre is a special plus in this deeply moving music. The Wagner recordings are among the very last examples of her singing music by the composer with whose music she is most closely associated. Flagstad was THE Wagnerian soprano between 1930 and 1960.

The orchestral accompaniments here feature the great Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, an ensemble steeped in the tradition of both Mahler's and Wagner's music. The recordings themselves are legendary "Classic Sound" Decca recordings from the Sofiensaal in Vienna.
