ABOUT THIS SACD

HYBRID SACD - also available on CD

Handel’s vocal music - written for the greatest voices of the 18th Century - has never been more popular than it is today. Now, one of the greatest singers of the 21st Century Renée Fleming – renowned above all for the stunning beauty of her voice, and critically acclaimed for her Handel peformances - has recorded this sumptuous new album of glorious arias from Handel’s operas and oratorios.

The album is released in time for Renée Fleming’s debut in the title role of Handel’s Rodelinda at the Metropolitan Opera New York in December 2004. (This event will attract World-wide interest as it will mark the Metropolitan Opera premiere of this great opera).

The Decca recording was made with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment conducted by English Handel specialist Harry Bicket - who recently conducted the Glyndebourne festival performances of Rodelinda, and who will conduct the performances at the Met in December.

The album includes both opera arias in Italian and arias from the oratorios in English. As well as the most well-loved Handel favourites such as Ombra mai fu and Lascia chi'o pianga the album will include a number of rarely performed bravura arias - as well as an outstandingly beautiful aria from Rodelinda.
