RECORDING INFORMATION
The Yeomen of the Guard
Gilbert & Sullivan’s most tragic work features the Jester Jack Point who loses his beloved Elsie to the man he helps free from the Tower Of London. Though more operatic than most G&S, much of the pathos comes from the simplicity of Sullivan’s touching setting of the Jester‘s song of lost love, “I have a song to sing, o!“

… with consistently fine singing from all the principals (and especially from Elizabeth Harwood as Elsie), this Yeomen is unreservedly a success with its brilliant and atmospheric Decca recording …

Trial by Jury
The sparkling one-act Trial by Jury was the first great success for Gilbert, Sullivan and Richard D’Oyly Carte.
It is set in a court of law where the heart-broken Angelina sues the caddish defendant for breach of promise, only to be surprised by the unconventional decision of the Judge.

… the Decca set also includes Godfrey’s immaculately stylish and affectionate Trial by Jury with John Reed as the Judge.
