RECORDING INFORMATION
Utopia Unlimited
Though among the least well known Gilbert & Sullivan works, Utopia Limited is an accomplished stage work in the tradition of the best of the Savoy Operas. Though set in the south seas it involves a rather British royal scandal. The tropical utopia is, of course, based on Victorian England!

The whole opera is well worth having in such a lively and vigorous account … Royston Nash shows plenty of skill in the matter of musical characterization, and the solo singing is consistently assured … the sparkle and spontaneity of the performance as a whole are irresistible … The CD transfer shows the 1975 recording as being of Decca’s best vintage quality, full, atmospheric and capturing the orchestra splendidly in an admirable balance with the voices.
