RECORDING INFORMATION Utopia Unlimited Though among the least well known Gilbert & Sullivan works, Utopia Limited is an accomplished stage work in the tradition of the best of the Savoy Operas. Though set in the south seas it involves a rather British royal scandal. The tropical utopia is, of course, based on Victorian England! The whole opera is well worth having in such a lively and vigorous account Royston Nash shows plenty of skill in the matter of musical characterization, and the solo singing is consistently assured the sparkle and spontaneity of the performance as a whole are irresistible The CD transfer shows the 1975 recording as being of Deccas best vintage quality, full, atmospheric and capturing the orchestra splendidly in an admirable balance with the voices.
