RECORDING INFORMATION
The House of Lords is invaded by a flock of angry fairies in this unlikely story of how Strephon,
(half man — half fairy) is eventually allowed to marry Phyllis, the Arcadian shepherdess.
Iolanthe contains much of Sullivan’s most heartfelt music as well as the trademark G&S toe-tappers.

The chorus is excellent and the orchestral detail has the usual light Godfrey touch … the production was given added panache by introducing the Grenadier Guards band into the March of the Peers, with spectacular effect … The remastering is very successful, the sound bright but with an admirable acoustic ambience which allows every word to project clearly.
