RECORDING INFORMATION
Gilbert & Sullivan have fun with the Royal Navy and the British class system in this, their first major commercial success. The tale of the captain’s daughter who falls for a lowly sailor features many well-known G&S favourites including “I’m called little buttercup”, “When I was a lad” and “Never mind the why and wherefore”.

It would be difficult to imagine a better recorded performance … The choral singing is excellent, the orchestral playing good and Isidore Godfrey conducts with marvellous spirit and lift. The recording has splendid atmosphere … The sound is bright and open, words are clear and the ambience is splendidly calculated.
