The beautiful Rumanian-born soprano, Angela
Gheorghiu, is one of brightest stars on the opera stage today. This
2-DVD special edition demonstrates both the depth and breadth of her
extraordinary talent, bringing together her sensational Royal Opera
debut as the doomed Violetta of Verdi’s tragic La traviata, with
her vivacious Adina in Donizetti’s timeless comedy of love, L’elisir
d’amore. In the latter, her co-star, as Nemorino, is her real-life
husband, Roberto Alagna.
As a significant bonus item on the Donizetti disc, Derek Bailey’s
52 min film Love Potion presents a fascinating ‘behind-the-scenes’
look at the staging, rehearsal and recording of Frank Dunlop’s
celebrated production of L’elisir d’amore, including interview
footage with Angela Gheorghiu and Roberto Alagna.
Both DVDs are also available separately, and both have proved best-selling
titles, with La traviata already approaching 50,000 units on DVD alone.
Both feature Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound and subtitles in English,
French, German, Spanish and Chinese.
The The Art of Angela Gheorghiu box is available at a special
price of 2 for 1.5 (x Standard Opera DVD ppd), and is designed to
