ABOUT THIS DVD
Mozart's two greatest symphonies for 'Mozart Year'. Maestro Riccardo Muti conducts the Vienna Philharmonic in a special Salzurg Festival concert.

As a fitting tribute in Mozart’s Bicentenary Year, Riccardo Muti and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra gave a remarkable concert at the 1991 Salzburg Festival, bringing together the composer’s final two – and greatest – symphonies. Broadcast around the world, these memorable performances were preceeded by the Vienna Philharmonic strings performing one of the elegant Divertimenti, composed by the young Mozart during his early apprentice years in Salzburg.

The disc features both CD-quality stereo and a DTS 5.1 surround sound.

The disc additionally features two substantial extras: an 18-page on-screen and comprehensive Mozart Chronology, listing and dating all the major works and events in the great composer's life, plus a Mozart Picture Gallery containing over 25 images, including several famous paintings of Mozart.

This release is one of three new DVD releases, marking the forthcoming 250th anniversay of Mozart’s birth, in January 2006. The others are 1991 Bicentenary performances Mozart’s two greatest choral works – the Requiem and Mass in C minor, conducted by Sir John Eliot Gardiner – and a delightful selection of Mozart choral masterpieces, sung by the world-famous Vienna Boys’ Choir.
