Rodrigo, one of the best-known Spanish composers of the generation after De Falla's. Blind from the age of three, Rodrigo began early to study music, first in Valencia and then in Paris, where his teacher was Paul Dukas, and where he became friendly with De Falla. During the Spanish Civil War, he lived in Paris and Germany. Since 1939, he has lived in Madrid; from 1947 to 1976 he was professor of music history at the University of Madrid.
