Born in Montivideo, Uruguay Erwin Schrott has been acclaimed internationally in the world's most prestigious operatic theaters such as the Teatro alla Scala, Metropolitan Opera, Opera National de Paris, Washington Opera, Vienna State Opera, Teatro Colon of Buenos Aires, Royal Opera, Covent Garden, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Hamburg State Opera, Theatre Royale de la Monnaie, Teatro Comunale, Firenze, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Los Angeles opera and many others.
He has been hailed as one of the most exciting interpreters on the stage today and has been received special acclaim in as Don Giovanni and Leporello in Don Giovanni and in the title role of Le Nozze di Figaro and in the summer of 2008 made his long awaited debut at the Salzburg Festival as Leporello. In recent seasons he has sung Don Giovanni at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Teatro alla Scala, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Washington Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Seville, Turin and with the Metropolitan Opera on tour to Japan; as well as Figaro at the Metropolitan Opera , Covent Garden, Vienna State Opera, Zurich Opera, and in Valencia. Other roles in his repertoire have also included Pagano in Verdi’s I Lombardi, the title role in Verdi’s Attila, Banquo in Macbeth and Escamillo in Carmen. Schrott ‘s debut solo disc for Decca under Carlo Frizza with arias from Don Carlos, Les Vepres Siciliennes, Robert Le Diable, Simon Boccanegra, Don Giovanni, Le Nozze di Figaro has been released in 2008.
Erwin Schrott will begin the 2011/2012 season singing Mephistopheles in Faust at the Gran Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona followed by the title role of Boito’s Mefistofele for Opera de Monte Carlo. Other engagements during the season include his return to the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden as well as the Staatsoper Berlin for Don Giovanni as well as Tango concerts throughout Europe.
