The Austrian maestro left a great legacy on Decca. His association with the label began with the Vienna Philharmonic where he was chief conductor in the last 1950's. Beyond that he recorded several landmark opera interpretations including "La Boheme" and "Madame Butterfly" with Pavarotti and Freni, "Otello" with Tebaldi and del Monaco, and "Boris Godunov" with Nicolai Ghiaurov.
The most famous classical music on film is a Karajan/Decca recording, Strauss "Also Sprach Zarathustra", as the opening to Stanley Kubricks "2001".
