Beslan - A Concert for the Future"

Valery Gergiev, Orchestra and Soloists of the Mariinsky Theatre Sunday 7th November 2004, 7.30pm London Coliseum, St Martin's Lane, London WC2N 4ES Presented by The Mariinsky Theatre Trust

On Sunday 7th November, Valery Gergiev, Artistic Director of the Mariinsky Theatre (Kirov Opera and Ballet) and the Orchestra of the Mariinsky will come to London to give a single concert in memory of the tragedy in Beslan, North Ossetia. Gergiev himself is a native of Vladikavkaz, the neighbouring town to Beslan. The concert, to take place at the London Coliseum (home of English National Opera) will conclude with Tchaikovsky's Symphony No.6, The Pathetique. Leading soloists associated with the Mariinsky will join Gergiev and the Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre in the first half of the evening.

The funds raised from the concert will be used to help and support the people of Beslan and North Ossetia. Funds will be shared equally between the Beslan Lifeline Appeal (organised by the Charities Aid Foundation, registered UK charity 268369) and the Mariinsky Theatre's new cultural outreach programme in the Caucasus (supported by the Mariinsky Theatre Trust, registered UK charity 1010450).

We are immensely grateful that English National Opera has donated the use of the London Coliseum for this concert. City Inn, Westminster, has donated accommodation for the whole Mariinsky company and all the artists are donating their services. The performance is being organised by the Mariinsky Theatre Trust, a registered UK charity.

Tickets, £6 - £125, will be available through the London Coliseum Box Office from FRIDAY 1ST OCTOBER 2004. Any additional donations will also be gratefully received. Box office telephone: 020 7632 8300. Book online at: www.eno.org

'This concert is part of our efforts to help Ossetian families - the people who survived those horrible days in Beslan. Our one idea is to support these people both immediately and in long-term cultural rehabilitation over the coming years. Every great name associated with the Mariinsky wants to be there to unite with us and dedicate our performance to this idea.'
