Richard Bonynge began his career as a coach at the opera in the late 1950's and soon befriended a fellow Australian immigrant to London, the young soprano Joan Sutherland. Their partnership blossomed into marriage and their artistic union created one of the greatest vocal phenomenons of this century.
Richard Bonynge is a fine scholar and conductor with a passion beyond opera which extends to ballet, both familiar and long-neglected. The wide range of his musical sympathies is documented on over a hundred Decca recordings in the active catalogue.
